LOCAL WEDDING PROS TO BRING YOUR DAY TO LIFE
DJs and MCs
DJs do more than just provide a little dance music. The DJ usually leads the reception in the right direction in a timely manner. Being able to interact with the crowd and keep them engaged is what makes a GREAT DJ.
A word about music... let the DJ do his or her job. They have probably been to many more weddings than most brides and grooms will ever attend and they usually know what works.
Put your trust in them. Really. Trust them.
Every crowd is different, though. Each DJ has his own flow, own special dances, own crowd engaging techniques. When you plan the reception itinerary and music with your DJ, he'll know what you want to happen throughout the night. Don't be offended if he gives you a gentle reminder that you are 45 min past time when you had planned to cut the cake. You will lose track of time and he or she is there to help keep you on track, until you say otherwise. He's not your wedding coordinator, but he will guide you through the reception.
Giving your DJ a short list of songs that you want played, in addition to the special songs for the Formal Dances, will most likely end in a more successful party than giving him a list a 75 songs you want played in the order you have listed. (YES! That has happened to us and the reception was terrible!) Keep in mind that the oldest and the youngest guests at the reception want to dance, just like the 20-somethings. Save something for when cameras go dark and the late-nite party shift arrives.
